28 DAYS BEFORE MOVING: 
O Plan your moving budget.
O If you are using a moving company, contact them and make arrangements.
O Inventory all possessions. Decide what to move, sell, replace or donate to charity.
O Arrange for disposal of furnishings or clothing via garage sale or donation.
O Finalize your real estate financing.
O Order property insurance.
O Gather moving supplies, boxes, tape, newspaper, bubble wrap and rope.
O Prepare auto(s) for trip to new home. Check tires and have car(s) serviced.
O Terminate newspaper and other delivery services.
O Arrange to close or transfer your bank account, if appropriate.
O Plan your driving travel route.
O Obtain copies of all medical, dental, legal, accounting, veterinarian records.
O Place legal, medical, and insurance records in a safe and accessible place.
O Give the following your new address
___ 1. Friends and family members
___ 2. Banks, insurance companies, and other financial institutions
___ 3. Credit card companies
___ 4. Doctors, dentists, magazine subscriptions and other service providers
___ 5. State and Federal Tax authorities and government agencies
O Save moving receipts (many moving expenses are tax deductible).

TWO WEEKS BEFORE MOVING:
O Recruit moving-day help or confirm your with moving company.
O Confirm new bank accounts.
O Ensure that nothing remains at the dry cleaners or at repair businesses.
O Reduce your frozen food stock.
O Dispose of any goods that you no longer need.
O Dispose or drain flammable items: lawn mower, gas cans, paint, aerosol cans.

THE DAY BEFORE MOVING: 
O Set aside moving materials: tape measure, pocket knife, boxes, tape, markers.
O Bring moving vehicles to your house or confirm with your moving company.
O Check oil and gas in your vehicles.
O Defrost your freezer.
O Ensure that washer and dryer are empty and disconnected.
O Give away perishable foodstuff or plants.
O Make sure you have cash, credit cards and needed closing documents.

PACKING TIPS:
O Contact the Humane Society for help moving with pets.  www.hsus.org
O Label each box with the room to which it should be delivered.
O Label a â??Last to Pack, First to Unpackâ?? box with tools, flashlight, etc.
O Number the boxes and keep a list of what is in each box.
O Clearly mark fragile items.
O Pack a bag of personal items (change of clothes, toiletries, meds, maps, food).
O Keep a medical kit accessible.
O Save your receipts.
